Erika Stromof Scottsdale, AZ, Serves as an NAU Community Mentor

2013 Sep 3

Scottsdale, AZ resident, Erika Strom, was selected as a Community Mentor for the Health and Human Services community at Northern Arizona University's residential campus.

Community Mentors are upper division students who have a similar academic focus or area of interest as the students participating in the community. In their role as a peer mentor, they are a resource for their Residential Learning Community (RLC) students. Through weekly and individual meetings and additional programming, they help guide RLC students through the transition to college, introduce members to the campus community, and provide fun opportunities to form friendships.

Residential Learning Communities (RLC) are located within Freshman Connections residence halls and assist freshman with their transition to campus through a shared residential experience, clustering participants by academic major or special interest. Residential Learning Communities provide mutual classes for participants, they provide opportunities for students to connect with others who have similar academic majors or areas of interest, and they increase student access to professors and staff outside of the classroom setting.
